At St George's Pre-School, we are dedicated to creating a nurturing, stimulating and welcoming environment for all children. We have been in the village of Langton Matravers for 40 years and form an important part of the community. We are active in the community and have our own allotment, attend a small church session once a month, go on regular walks around the village as well as partake in community events. We are also on the same site as St George's Primary School and through these links formed, enable children to transition to school with more ease.
St George's Pre-School Dragons Club
Wraparound for children ages 2-11
We started our wraparound provision in 2017 as there has been a growing need for this provision with working parents. We offer Breakfast club from 8am-8.45am and an Afterschool club from 3.15pm-6pm. This service is open to all children aged 2-11 (Preschool-Year 6) and open to children from other schools and settings, not just those on St George's Preschool and Primary School site. However, own transportation between different sites is needed.
Activities in Dragons Club vary depending on the age of the children. All Preschool resources are available as well as activities and games for older children. The children can play games such as connect 4 and monopoly junior as well as construction with lego or knex. They get support with their reading and homework and they also get time to play outside after being in school all day.

St George's Pre-School
In the Pre-School room we have many resources that the children can access through child-led play such as small world play, drawing, role play, computer technology, construction as well as many more. We also have adult-led activities to get the children school ready. These include Circle times where we can work on shapes, numbers and colours, stories, or group activities and games among others.
Some children learn better outside and we have a free flow area for the children to explore. Most indoor activities can be taken outside, or those from outdoors can be brought in. This allows children to learn in their best environment. The children enjoy drawing with chalks, building with big blocks and water play out in the free flow area.
We have a large playground where the children can ride bikes, practice their pedalling, create amazing nature recipes in the mud kitchen, run and bond with their friends. Like with the free flow area, lots of resources are taken outside; guttering can be used to make amazing car runs, animals can play in the wild and large chalk drawings can be made on the ground.
We have our own allotment situated at a close walking distance from the preschool. The children grow their own vegetables and work on the allotment themselves. They enjoy planting, weeding but mostly the digging up of their produce to take home.
We explore the community nature trail and complete forest school-like activities. The children learn to manage their own risk with adult support by climbing trees, building 'campfires', exploring nature and making nature recipes. This is a maintained area for safety and allows the children to experience and explore nature.
We enjoy going on village walks around the stunning atmosphere of Langton Matravers. We have our 'quiet alley' where the children can to listen to see what they can hear, photos for a spotting game where the children notice things and places around the village and everyone loves a puddle walk!
As we are part of a church school, we attend St George's Church on the first Wednesday of every month for a short moral story, songs and music, and an activity. We also take part in the Langton Christmas Tree Festival.
We have visitors come and see us such as the Police, Fire and Swanage Library. These are loved by the children!
We also go on trips out on the bus. We've been down to the Library and we go and see the Christmas Tree Festival at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The bus is a great experience for the children.
We have special groups come in and see us. The children really love ZooLab where they can hold minibeasts and creatures and see others they wouldn't normally see. We've invited the Reception and Year one classes to join us on these special occasions
We have a special Leavers Day for the children transitioning to school. We go to Leeson House and the children get to enjoy pond dipping, nature trails, bug hunts and many more activities, or we go to Putlake Farm, where the children enjoy the soft play as well as feeding the farm animals and having a go at digging.
